When Was the Last Time You Gave Yourself Some Pleasure?
Non-food pleasure, I mean!
We all know that cakes and chocolate can trigger a dopamine rush — that feel-good hormone. It’s scientifically proven: the combo of fat and sugar can instantly boost our mood and give us a quick energy hit.
But… they also tend to stick around on our hips if we turn to them too often. That’s why it’s so helpful to create a list of your non-food pleasures — things that light you up without a single bite.
Your list will be uniquely yours, but it’s always fun to get inspired by what others enjoy too. Just be honest with yourself — this isn’t about what you should do or what’s good for you. This is about what brings you joy, lifts your spirits, and makes your heart smile.
For example, I don’t include hitting the gym — that’s more of a should for me than a true pleasure.
Here’s a peek at my personal non-food pleasure list (leaving out the more intimate ones ):
Spending half a day on the couch watching a great movie — and doing absolutely nothing else
A nap in a cool, dark room during the day
A relaxing massage
Acupuncture (I promise it’s not painful!) — it melts away stress and tension
Reading a book in the park
Moonbathing
A girls’ hangout — no food needed when it’s about the connection
Iced coffee on a hot day — zero calories, total bliss
Getting creative — making something with my hands
Designing outfits and jewelry with tailors and jewelers
A shopping day
Visiting a museum or going to the theater
Playing with outfit ideas and planning looks
Dressing up and dancing in front of the mirror — been doing this since I was a kid
Writing a blog post or a piece for my course — it lights me up inside
And finally… I truly love learning, exploring myself and the universe, and sharing what I discover. As the Bible says: “Out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks.” — Luke 6:45
So tell me — what brings you joy?
