"Under-" Instead of "Over-" — What’s Throwing Your Body Out of Balance?

If you're gaining weight, it’s not because of “over-,” but because of “under-.”

Let me explain…

You're under-nourishing your body. Some foods are nutrient-dense and truly satisfying, while others are high in calories but lack essential nutrients.

Think of it like this: If your car needs gas but you fill the tank with water, it may be full, but it won’t run. Worse, you could damage the engine. Your body works the same way—it needs the right balance of macronutrients and micronutrients to function properly. If you don’t provide them, your system goes off track, leading to cravings, overeating, and all the consequences that follow.

The next “under-” is under-sleeping. Adults need 7–8 hours of quality sleep to fully recover and recharge. (We’ll dive into sleep details in another post.)

Another “under-” is under-moving. If your activity levels are too low, your body feels it. (Check the post above for tips on increasing movement.)

And the final “under-” is under-patience. Nothing happens overnight. You didn’t get here overnight—this moment is the result of years of habits, stress-coping mechanisms, and routines. Ice doesn’t melt at 32°F (0°C), but just a tiny increase in temperature, barely noticeable, starts the process.

Step by step, by building new habits, practicing mindfulness, and embracing a balanced lifestyle, you’ll see real, lasting results. After all, we don’t pull on a plant’s leaves to make it grow—we nourish it and let nature take its course. Now, apply that same principle to yourself.
