If you want to reach a healthy weight but have an unhealthy relationship with food, your chances of long-term weight loss are pretty low.

What does an unhealthy relationship with food look like?It’s different for everyone, but here are some common signs:

  • You start a new diet every Monday or on the first of the month—after indulging the night before because you know restriction is coming.

  • You eat “clean” for a few days, then binge on everything in sight.

  • You label foods as “good” or “bad.”

  • You feel anxious about eating out or attending social events because you don’t know the calorie count.

  • You cut out entire macronutrient groups just because someone told you they’re “bad.”

  • You feel guilty when you eat something you actually enjoy.

  • You feel ashamed of your body and yourself.
