Interview with Aonika Laurent Thomas

Aonika Laurent Thomas is an actress, stylist, activist, wife and mother.  She launched her career as an actor with hit shows on CBS and FOX, and soon developed her love for fashion as the lead stylist for G4 TV Network, in partnership with NBC Universal and E! Entertainment Television.
Soon thereafter, she expanded her passion for writing, completing her first screenplay and quickly selling it to the first producer it was presented to. Unheard of in Hollywood and an impressive win for this first time writer!
With a keen sense for mixing current collections with vintage finds, Aonika's fashion instincts continue to shine.
Q&A
1.What is the trait you most deplore in others?
A trait I deplore in others is a lack of curiosity. It is especially loathsome to me at this time in our country. I teach my children to question everything and listen intently. Follow facts and science, don’t just accept the words of others; have a healthy skepticism. We have all witnessed what happens when people blindly follow an ideal or singular information source. It leads to chaos.  We encourage the question “why" and never accept “just because" in our home.

2. What do you consider the most overrated virtue?

The most overrated virtue is charm. As a native New Orleanian, I’m sure that I could charm the morning dew off the magnolia.  However, It is often the case that people who lack intelligence, talent, merit and sometimes common decency get by and get over with nothing more than charm.  when possessed by  someone of true virtue, charm is delightful, but in the unworthy or unscrupulous it can be dangerous.

3. What or who is the greatest love of your life?

The greatest love of my life is Sean Patrick Thomas. Our love created two of the most magnificent humans. I am forever grateful, forever a mother, forever inspired, forever challenged, forever a dance partner,  forever in love, and forever his girl.

4. Which words or phrases do you most overuse?

The phrase I overuse in the last few months is “In the middle of a pandemic?!” It’s my answer for everything. The calls for playdates - "In the middle of a pandemic?!”. The request for me to go INTO the store - “In the middle of a pandemic?!”.  The call to go back to school - "in the middle of a pandemic?!”. The request to travel - “In the middle of a pandemic?!"  FaceTime? "In the middle of a pandemic?!"  It just works.

5. What is your most marked characteristic?

My most marked characteristic is my quick wit.

6. What are your favorite names?

My favorite names are Lola, Jolie and Luc Laurent.
